KUCHING: Four Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) branches recently gathered at a restaurant in Kuching recently. The four are SUPP Stakan Branch (host) SUPP Batu Kawa Branch, SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch and SUPP Batu Kitang Branch.
Local businessman and SUPP Stakan Branch Proterm Chairman and now Honorary Chairman Dato Sim Swee Yong hosted the gathering. The host in his welcoming speech stressed the need for a united SUPP to take on the task of winning back the P196 Stampin seat.
As the person tasked with forming SUPP Stakan Branch he wanted the branch to play an active role in helping SUPP regain its former strength.
He wanted to organise this gathering so that the other three branches of the party that will be involved in the task of wrestling back the
Stampin seat, can get to know and familiarise with their new comrades
from the newly formed SUPP Stakan Branch.
The evening started with a short welcoming speech from organising chairman and Stakan Branch Secretary Sivanesan Sanmugalingam, followed by the welcoming speech by Dato Sim Swee Yong.
The evening progressed with speeches delivered by representatives of all the branches. SUPP Batu Kawa was represented by Lim Ah Ted, secretary of Batu Kawa Branch.
SUPP Kota Sentosa was represented by their chairman Cr. Wilfred Yap and Batu Kitang Branch chairman Lo Khere Chiang delivered the last speech for the night.
The recurrent theme in all the speeches were that of echoing Dato Sim Swee Yong’s call for a united and concerted effort to wrest back P196 Stampin from the opposition. There is also a consensus being that the new leadership under
Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian is one that demands service delivery
and with P196 Stampin won by BN, SUPP will have a total of three YBs to coordinate and bring all the necessary service delivery and funds to develop Stampin.
Lim Ah Ted had a simple message and that was for all the four branches to collaborate further and have more
similar functions to foster greater ties and understanding amongst
each other in preparation for the 14th General Election (GE14).
Wilfred Yap spoke on the unholy and most awkward alliance of Tun Mahathir with his “arch enemy” DAP and PKR. He pointed out the irony of the pact and demonstrated how only people with no principles can anyhow form alliances to win at all cost.
SUPP Stakan Branch chairman, Sim Kiang Chiok concentrated his speech impressing on his audience on most of the disinformation, blatant lies and perception created by the opposition, stressing on the lack of evidence and careful coining of phrases that imply guilt but evade prosecution.
Lo as the last speaker for the night summed up by pointing out that SUPP under its new leadership, including himself, needed to keep their approach professional and performance-driven.
“The rakyat have responded positively to our approach and we must continue and build on that.
“P196 can be saved by BN SUPP only when the people are certain that they will benefit from it so SUPP must continue to go on the ground and be
with the people to understand their needs and aspirations,” Lo, who is also Batu Kitang State Assemblyman pointed out.
