KUCHING: The Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2017 held at Eastern Mall, Siburan near here from 28 April to 13 May was a huge success.

In his speech at the closing ceremony last Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing pointed out that it was vital for the Dayak community to work together and unite on something that can benefit the whole community.

“We lost a lot when we are fighting against each other and there are a lot more benefits if we all work together,” Masing said.

He added that the ‘Persatuan Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak’ (GADS) should allow its platform at the Gawai Dayak Bazaar to be used by young Dayak entrepreneurs to profit from the event.

Masing also noted that the more the Dayak community gets together and unite the better it is because the one who profits should be the Dayak entrepreneurs.

“Make sure you organise this not for GADS personal agenda but you must allow the Dayak entrepreneurs to make money and if they make money you will benefit from it too,” he said.

He also pointed that GADS has created a need that nobody dares to start, or thought about it and it can be likened to the Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS).

“Nobody has done it before and GADS dare to be different and they are not competing with others.

“At the moment there is a tendency among us the Dayak community to create ‘Red Ocean Strategy’ where the ocean becomes red because you compete among each other and no one else benefits from it,” Masing said and advised the Dayak community to stop fighting against each other.

He also urged GADS not to compromise on the things they want to do and also not to compete.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Transportation, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Snowdan Lawan, GADS President, Vicky Gullin Shandom and GBD 2017 organising chairman, Hillary Jeffery.
