LUNDU: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri celebrated Gawai and Aidiladha with over 200 children and senior citizens at Anjung Tok Milah here on Saturday (June 22).
The Gawai-Raya celebration, organised by the Lundu District Welfare Organisation, was praised by Nancy as a reflection of the harmonious multi-ethnic society in Sarawak.
“In the context of unity, the culture of sharing and consensus must be practised not only during celebrations but also in daily life to ensure the nation’s peace and stability remain strong and harmonious.
“This event is hoped to foster closer ties while enjoying the prepared dishes, creating a family spirit, and strengthening unity.
“It also provides an opportunity for mutual forgiveness and strengthening existing friendships,” she said at the event.
Additionally, Nancy, who is Santubong MP, stated that the establishment of Anjung Tok Milah demonstrates the government’s commitment to helping those in need in the constituency.
She added that local services such as the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) Lundu, the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK) PAKMA Gading, and the Lundu District Children’s Activity Centre (PAKK) are now held at Anjung Tok Milah as the hub.
The PAWE Lundu, established in 2016, serves as a place for the elderly to carry out daily activities within the community, involving strategic cooperation between the ministry, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The PPDK PAKMA Gading, established in 2012, provides rehabilitation for children with disabilities, while the Lundu PAKK, newly established in February 2024, aims to offer support, protection, and advocacy for children in need.
“These three organisations jointly organised today’s Gawai and Aidiladha celebration, showcasing unity of heart in executing this meaningful event,” she added.
Meanwhile, Nancy noted that PAWE Lundu has 305 registered members, with 160 active members as of May 2024.
PPDK PAKMA Gading Centre has 13 trainees and the Lundu PAKK has 68 registered children.
