SIBU: One of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) potential candidates for Sibu parliamentary seat – Clarence Ting has expressed his desire not to contest in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said he has informed the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, about the matter during a private meeting on Wednesday.
“We had a very casual meeting yesterday as the Premier wanted to know about the development and other issues in Sibu,” he said.
“Although it (meeting) is not about candidates for GE15, I have expressed (to Abang Johari) that I have no desire to be a candidate,” he told the reporters after the Sibu Municipal full council meeting here today.
However, Ting said he is ready to contest if the coalition top leadership nominated him to wrest Sibu from the opposition in the GE15.
“I am ready; I am always ready as I am already serving Sibu every day. How can I not be ready compared to people who appear once every five years?” he said, adding that he would leave the matter to the GPS top leadership and Premier Abang Johari to decide
Ting, who is also the SUPP Pelawan branch chairman was among the three potential candidates proposed by SUPP, to stand in Sibu parliamentary seat in the general election, alongside Tony Hii (SUPP Bawang Assan), and Daniel Sng (SUPP Nangka).
