KUCHING: Over 200 supporters have been chanting ‘Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Menang, Menang, Menang’ and ‘YB Lo, Menang, Menang, Menang’ outside the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) nomination centre here today.
They gathered as early as 7.30morning to show support for GPS candidate Lo Khere Chiang, who is contesting in the Stampin parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman joined the supporters and marched towards the centre to submit his nomination at 8.35am.
He was accompanied by his proposer Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and seconder Wilfred Yap, who is the Kota Sentosa assemblyman.
The supporters clad in white shirts with the GPS logo were also seen waving the GPS flag high as to show their support for Lo.
Earlier, Lo also took time to meet and greet his supporters at a coffee shop nearby.
Meanwhile, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman and Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen arrived at the MPP office at 9am. Together with him was his proposer Hiu Kuan Fah and seconder Tan Key Chee.
Chong, who will be defending his seat this general election, was also accompanied by a group of supporters. They were heard cheering ‘Lawan Tetap Lawan’ and ‘Kita Boleh’ as they marched from a coffee shop nearby towards the nomination centre.
Among Chong’s supporters were both of his parents Chong’s father Chong Siew Chiang and mother Sim Yaw Sik.
Earlier, another candidate, Lue Cheng Hing of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) was the first to arrive at the nomination centre at 8.25am.
He was accompanied by his proposer Raymond Thong and seconder Wong Tun Teck.
Lue will be contesting under the Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) banner.
In Bandar Kuching, hundreds of GPS party members have gathered to show support for their candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok, who is contesting in Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat in GE15.
They started to chant “Support GPS Eric Tay” along Jalan Canna Lily Boulevard, while moving toward the nomination centre at the Kuching Community Hall,
Also participating in the joining the supporters were Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Datuk Lily Yong, and Sih Hua Tong.
Besides that, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) were also present with their supporters.
As for DAP, the candidate is Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate is Voon Lee Shan.
