KUCHING: Santubong candidate Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri pledged to do her best to fill in the shoes of incumbent Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Nancy admitted that this coming 15th General Election (GE15) will not be an easy fight for her.
“In fact, none of the elections held are easy. This year, we are challenged with having a huge number of voters. Over 79,000 of them.
“For that, I hope that the voters will give their support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as GPS has proven that it has brought many good things and development for the state,” she said.
She said this when met by the media at Institut Kemahiran Mara Kuching (IKM) today (Nov 5).
In light of this, she also lauded the assemblymen under the parliamentary constituency along with Wan Junaidi for carrying out their duties with excellence.
“Their success will be a guidance for me to continue carrying out what they did all this time. We, in GPS, have always provided services to the people. That is our rule, and our guide,” she said.
Following this, she pointed out that prior to this, 18 of the party’s members were elected as MPs.
“Despite only having 18 MPs, we are respected and there are a lot of Sarawak’s requests that have been considered (in Parliament).
“Therefore, if we were to gain more supporters for GPS, more of our voices will be heard at the parliament level,” she stressed.
As Nancy will be contesting in the Santubong seat instead of Batang Sadong, she called on electorates in the constituency to give their support for her, as they have given their support for Wan Junaidi.
“I thank Wan Junaidi for his contributions for the whole Sarawak and Santubong itself. I believe there will be people who will miss him as he has done a lot for the area.
“The shoes that he left are too big for me to fill but I will try my best to uphold and continue his work for the sake of the supporters.
“For that, I hope that whatever support and leadership that was given to him will also be given to me. Our desire is to serve the people, hence, what we did before, we will continue doing it,” she said.
