BAU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Mas Gading Lidang Disen has pledged to do his best to wrest the parliamentary seat from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the 15th General Election (GE15).
According to Lidang, he will continue to work closely with Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
The Mas Gading parliamentary constituency comprises two state seats namely Tasik Biru and Opar.
“I called upon the constituents of Mas Gading to continue support for GPS because its track record has been proven over the years, through the development brought by GPS to the rakyat,” he said when met by the media after nominations here today (Nov 5).
Lidang will face incumbent Mordi Bimol of DAP and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate Sim Min Leong.
Meanwhile, Henry, who is the Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) also expressed similar views, adding that he, Lidang and Billy had been actively working on the ground for the past months, visiting one village to another.
“We want to restore the momentum of the GPS fighting spirit like how we did in the last state election.
“I believe we can recapture back the seat (Mas Gading) for GPS based on the previous track record,” he said.
According to Henry, GPS’ excellent track record has been proven from the last state election, where the local coalition managed to win in a landslide victory.
“We have also proven to the people with the development brought by GPS and taking care of the people’s welfare during the pandemic.
“Therefore, every voter in Mas Gading must not waste that vote. We want the votes to go to a stable government that can properly govern the country and restore the rights of Sarawak,” he stressed.
In the last general election, Mordi won the seat in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Anthony Nogeh with a majority of 3,024 votes.
The current total number of voters for Mas Gading is 47,171.
