KUCHING: Political parties should know when they can only start putting up their campaign materials including party flags for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said they have not received any report regarding incidents – where political parties have begun hanging flags and banners.
Although the Parliament has been dissolved, the Election Commission has not announced the nomination and polling dates, as well as the campaign period.
“The political parties should know they need to wait for the EC to announce the date, and definitely not allowed to do so before the campaign period starts,” he said.
“So far, we have yet to receive any report on this matter,” he told the reporters during the Hi-Tea gathering between Sarawak police and media practitioners at Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today.
Thus, he advised all political parties to wait for the EC announcement.
Azman added that if they were to start hanging and distributing their political flags earlier, actions will be taken by the EC according to the laws set in place.
Earlier this week, caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the Parliament, which will pave the way for GE15, which must be held within 60 days.
