KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) new face Rodiyah Sapiee, who has been named to contest in Batang Sadong, will be working closely with three assemblymen under the parliamentary seat to help retain the seat.
The three state constituencies under Batang Sadong are Gedong, Sadong Jaya and Simunjan, which are held by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Aidel Lariwoo and Awla Dris respectively.
The 44-year-old expressed her gratitude to Abang Johari, who is also the GPS chairman, for the opportunity. The seat was previously held by Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who is being fielded in Santubong.
“I will continue the work that Datuk Seri Nancy has done and make sure the rights of Sarawak are defended.
“I will give my very best and will also work closely with our Premier, Aidel and Awla (to win the hearts of voters in Batang Sadong),” the civil engineer told the media today.
Batang Sadong has been represented by PBB since the 1990s – Wahab Suhaili (1990-1995), followed by Sukinam Domon (1995-2004) and the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem (2004-2008).
In the 14th general election (GE14), Nancy defended Batang Sadong with a majority of 12,328 votes. She garnered 14,208 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Othman Mustapha (1,880 votes) and Parti Se-Islam Malaysia’s (PAS) Asan Singkro (978 votes).
