KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Willie Mongin said there is no such thing as “an easy win” in every election, including to defend his Puncak Borneo seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Although he won the seat by garnering 18,865 votes with a majority of 4,005 in the previous election, he will need to work hard and double the effort to retain his seat.

“In election there is no such thing like easy win as we have to work hard, we have to be sincere to people we, have to do everything to actually keep the confidence and so the voters support us,” he said when asked by reporters after the announcement of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates for GE15 at PBB headquarters here today.

Willie, who won the seat under PKR ticket in the GE14, hoped the voters will continue to support him – as a GPS candidate – as he had worked hard for the constituency.

“And I would like to appeal to all the voters in Puncak Borneo to give me a chance to continue to serve and make sure they support GPS here.

“I hope with the effort we have done so far will actually translate to the support from the ground. I really appeal to all of them,” he urged.

He also hoped that the voters now can see the bigger picture as Sarawak really needs representatives from the state to bring stability and the people’s voice in the parliament.

Meanwhile, Willie expressed his gratitude as he has been given the opportunity by GPS to defend his seat.

“This time around I will be using a GPS logo and with this I would like to thank the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and all PBB leadership especially the deputy presidents and the supreme council,” he added.

In the last GE14, Willie won the seat under PKR ticket but then he quit the party in 2020.
