SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh will contest the Sibu Parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
He made the announcement at a press conference after chairing PSB’s first central committee meeting at its Bawang Assan service centre here today.
Wong said it was the party’s wish that he should contest the Sibu Parliamentary seat.
“If the party wants me (to contest), I will have to just go for it because personally as a person it is not important but the party’s (decision) is important.
“As a party president I might have to spearhead the parliamentary election for the whole of Sarawak,” he said.
Asked whether he was confident to contest, Wong noted that Sibu needed a good parliamentarian and with his years of experience he had passed the qualification to do so.
“I think I am qualified for it because I have been in Barisan Nasional (BN) and later on as part of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) also, for the past 30 years and I know what needs to be done for the people of Sarawak.
“I might be quite elderly but I think I am most qualified to carry the voice of the Sibu people into parliament and also for Sarawak.
“I have done a lot for Sibu in the past. I hope to be able to do more as a member of parliament if I get elected, and I hope I can help Sibu people more and definitely help people of Sarawak more,” he said.
Wong’s candidacy also received unanimous support from the council members including his deputy Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa who is also Engkilili assemblyman.
As for the Lanang parliamentary seat, Soon Koh hinted that it might be contested by Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).
