GEDONG: Gedong and Simunjan have the potential to cultivate microalgae and become one of the microalgae producers in the state.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he would swiftly consent if International Trade and Investment Ministry advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais requested that Gedong and Simunjan become microalgae producers.
“This is not mere talk. This is something that we can do,” he said at the Gedong District Hari Gawai 2023 celebration at RTC Munggu Lalang Hall, Ulu Gedong, here last night (June 17).
Following this, he explained that algae can produce 40 per cent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biodiesel as well as 20 per cent naphtha with premium quality, which can be sold at a high price.
He added that as 70 per cent of the state budget is allocated to developing rural areas, it is a must to have new ways to increase the economy and try to improve what Sarawak has, including in terms of energy.
“We are not only developing Gedong and Simunjan but also Rajang, Saribas, Baram, and other areas in northern Sarawak.
“For that, we build roads, bridges, irrigation, and drainage projects, along with other projects that can develop their economy,” he said.
Having said this, Abang Johari called on the people to continue their support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
“We continue our cooperation together to develop the state. As this year is the 60th year of our independence, we want our successor to be more advanced in the coming years.
“2030 will mark the first phase of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS), and after that, the younger generation will continue the development of our state,” he said.
