KUCHING: Gentari Sdn Bhd, via its subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Sarawak in partnership with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
The launch of the first EV charging points took place at the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum 3.0 (SAREF 3.0) here on today (Sept 7), and was witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The initial charging points are located at Kuching’s ICOM Square and offer three charging points, with two providing an impressive 180kW DC charging power, making it the fastest and largest capacity public charging station in Borneo.
During September, the charging service will be on trial, and Kuching users will have access to a network of 600 charging points across Malaysia through Gentari’s EV roaming network via the Setel and JomCharge mobile applications.Gentari deputy CE
O and Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd CEO Shah Yang Razalli highlighted the significance of the launch in advancing the EV infrastructure in Sarawak.
“This launch, the first of many to come, signifies substantial progress in bolstering the region’s EV network. By introducing 24/7 fast charging capabilities, we are not only building range confidence, but making the transition to EVs an appealing one.”
Gentari signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with SEB in June, focusing on growing EV adoption in Sarawak through the development of an extensive Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure.
This initiative supports the Malaysian government’s plan to reach 10,000 EV charging stations in Malaysia by 2025 under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030.
Meanwhile, SEB Group CEO Datuk Sharbini Suhaili expressed Sarawak Energy’s commitment to building a network of EV chargers across Sarawak, starting in Kuching and extending along the Pan Borneo Highway.
“This initiative aligns with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy to support the decarbonisation of the transportation sector. Sarawak Energy aims to green the grid and electrify the fleet as Malaysia’s largest renewable energy provider.”
