MIRI: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala has been appointed as the chairman of the newly established Miri branch of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS).

Gerawat, who is also Mulu state assemblyman, was elected for the post during the branch’s annual general meeting (AGM) held at a leading hotel here today.

In his opening remarks after the appointment, Gerawat said SABERKAS played a vital role in shaping and molding the youth of Sarawak for the progress of the state.

He said with a focus on empowering young individuals through leadership training, this organisation serves as a platform for youth to grow and thrive.

“SABERKAS equips the youth with the tools they need to contribute positively to the advancement of Sarawak. Through mentorship programmes, workshops, and community initiatives, this organisation instils values of hard work, dedication, and community involvement in the youth, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future for Sarawak,” Gerawat disclosed.

Other elected committee members for SABERKAS Mulu branch for the 2023 -2026 term are Usat Bilong (vice chairman 1); Paul Ajang (vice chairman 2); Daylon Jalian Henry (secretary); Harrison Anyi Laeng (deputy secretary 1); Alister Paren Gelon (deputy secretary 2); Steve Paul Davis (treasurer); and six committee members – Ferrera Paris, Paulus Galang, Norhelma Biute, Cassandra Garnete, Lah Gau and Rufus Abel Tuan .

Also present during the AGM was Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mulu branch deputy chairman Datuk Robert Laing Anyi.
