KLB Garden is a new retreat destination in Sarawak where visitors can truly experience and feel the peaceful nature of Borneo while admiring the exotic flora and fauna. It’s the perfect spot for families to bond, spend quality time together, and learn a thing or two about nature.
Agro-farm, mini-zoo, event halls all in one place
Located some 43km from Serian and about 90km from Kuching City centre, KLB Garden at Tebedu is a nice retreat for those who wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. It is a serene place for you to unwind, relax, and get closer to nature.
Tebedu is a border town near the border crossing checkpoints of Tebedu-Entikong between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
KLB Garden, established in 2018 by the founder, Kueh Kwang Siang, is named after his late father, Kueh Lai Boo, a reputed businessman in Tebedu.
The Garden is not only visited by residents in and around the Serian and Kuching Divisions but also by Indonesians and other foreign tourists as well.
It is built on the concepts of an agro-farm, a mini-zoo, and nature land.
One of the captivating aspects of KLB Garden is its stunning array of flora. As you wander through the farm, vibrant flowers, tropical plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and lush greenery will greet you at every corner.
The farm boasts a wide variety of plant species, including orchids, hibiscus, various flowering plants, as well as exotic tropical plants, including several species of pitcher plants.
The beautifully landscaped gardens are a sight to behold, with meticulously manicured lawns with models of animals, statues of the characters from children’s fairy tales, and colourful flower beds that create a picturesque setting. Even Christmas trees have been installed in view of the coming Christmas festival.
For those with a keen interest in fauna, KLB Garden offers a unique opportunity to observe and interact with a diverse range of animals. The farm is home to a mini zoo, where visitors can get a closer look at the various species of birds, reptiles, and mammals, including farm animals such as goats, cows and rabbits, as well as wild animals such as deer, bears, alligators, iguanas, crocodiles, musangs, porcupines, otters, slow loris, cats and many more.
There are also different types of birds, such as peacocks, hornbills, parrots, owls, rare wild fowls and the like.
Visitors can also get closer to some of the animals, like deer, cows, goats and rabbits, by feeding them vegetables (kangkong) and carrots.
On weekends, there are otter feeding demonstrations as well. The feeding schedule is 10.30 a.m. on Saturdays and 2.30 p.m. on Sundays. Zookeepers feed the otters with small fish. Visitors are also permitted to feed the animals by grabbing the small fish with a pair of bamboo tongs and handing them over through special openings in the wire netting.
Recreational activities
The garden offers several types of indoor and outdoor activities, including bumper cars, bicycle riding, indoor swimming pool, boat paddling in the lake, and a playground for children.
For educational purposes, teachers and students can use the garden as a teaching tool for outdoor activities and field trips to learn more about the flora and animals in the natural world.
There are also additional facilities such as conference rooms available at the KLB Garden that are suitable for meetings and seminars for government or corporate bodies.
For those who wish to stay overnight, there are accommodation rooms, including cabins, Mongolian tents, and family rooms, for rent. Visitors can also bring their own tents and camp at the camping site with basic amenities for a small fee.
The entrance fee to the garden is RM18 for children, RM26 for adults, and RM80 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children, while senior citizens aged 64 and above and disabled persons are free of charge.
