KUCHING: Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri urged the public to get enough rest during the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

“Good sleep is essential for long hours of driving, heavy consumption of red bull drink or coffee may not be much of a help.

“Road users who avoid sleep have high chances of road accidents, especially during the festive period,” he said.

Mohd Azman said this after he launched the ‘Ops Selamat’ at Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd Factory which commence on Thursday (April 20) until April 27.

The eight-day traffic safety operation carried out by the Sarawak Police is conducted to ensure safety on all roads during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“The theme of the operation remains as ‘Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai ke Destinasi’ and we are focusing on two main things, namely, to prevent housebreaking and minimise the number of accidents on the road.

“I would also like to remind the staff of Taiyo Yuden to prioritize safety first before leaving for the celebration,” he said.

Mohd Azman said this after closing the Road Safety Campaign which was attended by some 80 participants from Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd Factory.

The campaign was attended by DCP Datuk Mancha Ata, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO), Masashi Toyama , JPJ Sarawak director, Norizan Jili and Tan Phang Chia, director of PERKESO Sarawak.

The Road Safety Campaign is a collaboration between the Sarawak Police and PERKESO Sarawak.

“Road users are reminded to drive safely to their destinations.

“The Road Safety Campaign is a good opportunity for both the private sectors and PERKESO to be aware of the road laws,” he said.

He added, the purpose of the campaign is to provide exposure to the participants regarding road safety.

Adding further, Mohd Azman urged the participants to provide information to the police by filling in the ‘Borang balik kampung’, which can be obtained from the nearest police station, or downloaded from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) portal – https://www.rmp.gov.my/.
