SRI AMAN: Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis wants environmental education to be made an essential part of the activities of school clubs and associations.
He said in this way students will learn their role towards healthy environment not only as individuals but also as responsible members of their clubs and associations.
“Therefore, I urge teachers-in-charge and student leaders to make this happen by introducing environmental education to their respective groups.
“If you can do that you will be facilitating the inculcation of a culture of caring for the environment.
“Clubs and associations in schools are many, use these to help promote green practices,” Harden said when officiating at the Environment Education and Awareness Club of PALS Club (Environment Lovers) at the Datuk Ajibah Abol Children’s Home here yesterday.
He said he hoped the next time he comes to visit the school he will be seeing signs of green practices in the school.
Yesterday’s event, held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), was attended by 120 members of the PALS Club from five primary schools and three secondary schools in the Sri Aman district.
Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, suggested that schools in the Sri Aman district join the PALS Club as there are many privileges for the club members.
“NREB has training opportunities for teachers, environmental modules, PALS Club grants…the list goes on,” he said.
