KUCHING: The Legal Aid Department (LAD) has launched another Justice on Wheels (JoW) to provide access to justice to all walks of life at the Sarawak State Library Building.

According to Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan, the JoW programme is a platform for the people to seek legal help and solve their legal problems.

He said the programme is the commitment of the Madani government in providing access to justice for every layer of society regardless of where they are.

“This programme will also benefit people who live in rural areas to obtain legal aid services provided by the Legal Aid Department (LAD),” he said when officiating at the JoW ceremony at the Sarawak State Library, Petra Jaya here today.

He said a total of five JoW Sarawak programmes, namely at Simunjan, Sri Aman, Lingga, Mukah, and Lundu Sematan will be implemented from June to October.

“During this programme, the public can get advice from LAD officers on duty. The process of getting advice during the JoW programme is the same as in the legal clinic at the ‘reruai’ or public hall that has been held before.

“Those who come need to fill in the advisory service form and pay the advisory service fee before meeting the officer on duty stationed in the mobile van.

“In order to guarantee confidentiality between the officer and the client, no recording is allowed during the counselling service,” he said.

He said the average rate of time for an advisory service along with the examination of documents brought by the public is 30 minutes.

“During the advisory service, examination of qualification tests and merit tests will also be carried out for those who wish to apply for legal aid.

“The QR code pasted on the side and back of the van will make it easier for the public to get information on the JoW programme and access the iGuaman Gateway where a quick link to the LAD online service has been provided,” he said.
