KUCHING: Residents of Kota Samarahan were told to undergo Covid-19 screening if they showed any symptoms or were exposed to the outbreak through close contacts.
Dwellers can go to health clinics for testing to prevent any further spread of the virus, said its MP Rubiah Wang.
“I am saddened by the outbreak of Covid-19 in Kota Samarahan where the spread has been rampant of late.
“Within thirty days, there are three areas that had to undergo active case detection (ACD) for Covid-19, namely in Kampung Pinang, Kampung Muara Tuang and Taman Univista in Samarahan district.
“Samarahan district is now a red zone after more than 40 positive Covid-19 cases had been reported in the last 14 days,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.
Rubiah said with the development, residents must be disciplined in complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the authorities.
“I would like to advise all parties, especially community leaders and associations in the community as well as all residents of Kota Samarahan to unite in assisting frontline personnel to contain the Covid-19 spread.
“Please shoulder the responsibilities as best as possible by expanding public awareness of their role in ensuring that this dangerous pandemic can be controlled from continuing to infect our loved ones,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rubiah also said her office had worked with the Samarahan Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) and the Samarahan Division Health Office (DHO) in preparations to curb Covid-19 from an early stage
“I have always been in close contact with Samarahan DDMC and DHO in preparing for the third wave of Covid-19 since we identified the potential for recurrence lately,” she said.
