KAPIT: The Kapit Seventh Division Musicians Association hopes to encourage youths to take up music as an activity to get them to stay away from undesirable activities like drug abuse.

The association was officially launched on Sunday (May 15) by a political secretary to the premier, Tapah Ata.

Association chairman Richard Juntan felt that music was a good platform to discourage the younger generation from mixing with the wrong company which could lead to social problems, including substance abuse.

Giving a rundown on the formation of the association, he said it was approved on Feb 10 2020 by the authorities, and since then it had organised several activities for youths.

He said the association would serve as a link between local musicians and relevant agencies, while at the same time foster closer rapport among members.

Meanwhile, the association also held its inaugural concert on Sunday at the Kapit Town Square in conjunction with the Kapit Dayak Gawai Bazaar 2022.
