BALINGIAN: Ghapar Alo was recently crowned the champion of the Balingian Open Kite-Flying Competition, organised by the Balingian Kite Club.
The competition’s champion was awarded a cash prize of RM1,500.
Second place was secured by Afiq Alo, who received RM800, while third place went to Lock 22, who won a cash prize of RM500.
Speaking on behalf of the club, deputy secretary Nik Norasyikin Karnain shared that this competition was the first edition of the title since the club’s official establishment.
“Alhamdulillah, we have received a positive response, with 128 game slots and over 43 participants taking part in the competition,” she told Suara Sarawak recently.
Each participant was allocated three slots, she added, noting that competitors came not only from Balingian but also from Mukah and Bintulu.
Nik further explained that the primary objective of the competition was to provide the local community with an opportunity to experience kite-flying contests.
“Additionally, it is aimed at fostering a greater appreciation of the traditional sport of kite-flying, while also attracting visitors from outside the region, particularly kite-flying enthusiasts,” she continued.
Looking ahead, Nik hoped that the club would be able to host more kite-flying competitions in the future.
