SIBU: As soon as the news of a fire at Rumah Julau at Pasai-Siong spread on Saturday, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang immediately visited the victims.

He was accompanied by a few community heads including Pemanca Mathew Ganggang, Penghulu Andrewson Ngalai and others.

“It was a coincidence that I was in Sibu and after hearing this bad news, I immediately rushed to the longhouse.

“I’ve discussed with the residents of the longhouse and the government agencies for donations to be given to the fire victims. I hope the residents will be strong in facing the situation. I will do my best to help them,” he said.

Gira also thanked the Fire and Rescue Department and the State Disaster Management Committee for their immediate action.

The fire, which happened at 10.30am on Saturday, destroyed 10 of the 12 rooms at the longhouse.

The fire department received a distress call at 10.50am and immediately sent firemen to the scene.
