KUCHING: A four-year-old girl perished as a result of her injuries while her seven-month -old brother is in a critical condition following a car-motorcycle crash at the Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce intersection here.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said prior to the collision, a family of four from Kampung Temong Muara, Serian was heading to Third Mile from the city on a motorcycle at 12.01am last Wednesday (July 8).
The car was making its way to Jalan Hospital.
Alexson said on the motorcycle were a 31-year-old man, his 34-year-old spouse and their two children.
“Initial investigations revealed that the girl was seated at the front section of the motorcycle at the time of the collision. She was pronounced dead at 1.15am due to severe head injuries at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“Her brother suffered facial and body injuries while the mother had leg injuries. Her father sustained minor injuries,” he said, adding that the 34-year-old car driver was unharmed.
Alexson added that the driver was arrested under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.
He was released on police bail after his blood sample was taken for alcohol analysis and his statement recorded.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
