SARIKEI: Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has called on the people to support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who’s leading Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for political and economic stability.
He said the chief minister is a good leader as he has approved several major projects here. Among the projects are the Sarikei – Tanjung Manis Road project and the Agro Park project.
Huang was speaking at the launch of a Mooncake Festival with the hawkers in Repok on Saturday night.
He added he had been aiming to improve education in the constituency since becoming Repok assemblyman.
He said he shared a similar family background with the hawkers and was very aware of the hard work of the poor.
“Although I did not make a promise during the last election about the construction of Jalan Pasi to Jalan Tanjung Manis, I understand that the Sarikei people have been waiting for this project for a long time.
“Thus, I thank the people of Repok for choosing me as Repok people’s representative three years ago.
“The construction of this project will improve traffic flow and attract more people to come to Sarikei,” added Huang.
He said the project would make it easier to market farm products and improve the economy for all sectors of society.
“Hawkers need to work with the Sarikei District Council to maintain the cleanliness of business places. The cleanliness of the town will also enhance tourism development,” he explained.
On the mooncake festival, Huang said it was a traditional Chinese festival.
He added the event provided an opportunity for the hawkers in Repok to celebrate the special occasion together.
