DEBAK: Give full support to the children who continue their studies to universities whose financial issues have become main constraints, said Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam.

According to him, no less than 50 Saribas children have the opportunity to further their studies to tertiary institutions yearly.

“I am confident this year that more students come out with excellent performance as shown by Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Saribas in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. I understand more than 30 students have surpassed the requirements (to go for further studies in terms of grades).

“That number does not include the Saribas children from other schools.

“This shows we have abundant excellent children; and although their high qualifications do not promise an easy job entry, at least they are steps ahead of the others,” he stressed.

Razi shaking hands with the exco of PTA upon arrival at Sri Rimbas Hall for SMK Saribas PTA meeting.

He said this when officiating at SMK Saribas Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Meeting 2019 here on Saturday.

He acknowledged concerns among parents in bearing the expenses for their children in tertiary institutions.

“I’m very clear about that but the government has the initiative to help those in need even in the form of loans. We have the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and in the state, the Yayasan Sarawak.

“I hope parents will keep on encouraging their children in their studies and that one day, these children may receive golden offer in the form of PTPTN loans and Sarawak Foundation scholarships, thus paving an easier path in furthering their studies.

“In fact, I went to the Saribas ADUN Service Centre and recommended it to provide RM500 as an initial aid,” he said.

Razi praised SMK Saribas for being able to create a “mood” of excellence to be continued further by the students.

For the record, SMK Saribas obtained a School Average Grade (GPS) 2.99; it ranked17th among 28 schools that surpassed the National Average Grade (2.80).

“If compared to previous years, the scenario is constantly increasing. In the STPM 2016, we achieved GPS 2.18 and then it increased up to 2.72 in the next year (the lower the better).

“We kept the momentum and were able to increase the GPS by 0.27 to make it to 2.99. The results were very good and these made us very proud,” he said.

One of the candidates Hanapie Ramli, 20, obtained    four As with an Overall Grade Value Average (CGPA) of 4.0.

Also at the meeting were senior assistant (administration) Andrew Anthony Taboh and PTA chairman Abang Hakim Abang Hamzah.
