KUCHING: As is customary with every budget, Sarawak hopes for more allocations as it is the largest state in Malaysia.
“However, Sarawak, which has a wider area, is still lagging in various aspects of development. It needs immediate attention from the federal government,” said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Dr Abdul Rahman when contacted yesterday.
He said allocating RM746 million to repair dilapidated schools in Sarawak and Sabah was a wise move because the issue was a sticking point for the education sector in both states.
“With this allocation, we can provide a good learning environment for students,” he said.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who also serves as Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), lauded the allocation of RM10 million to encourage the younger generation in Sarawak and Sabah to increase their knowledge in culture and heritage.
“This is because inattention to such matters could erode the young people’s interest in their respective cultures and heritage,” he said.
