Following its early release in China, the new DC movie starring Jason Momoa makes a splash at the top of the global box office. Grossing US$93.6M, “Aquaman” comes ahead of “The Grinch” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Moviegoers in China were able to catch DC’s latest picture before anyone else this weekend. “Aquaman,” which is out December 21 in the US, opened on some 33,000 3D screens and proved a hit, grossing US$93.6M.
“The Grinch” moves up two places into second, grossing US$41.1M over the weekend. The Christmas tale is followed by “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which is nearing total worldwide grosses of US$600M.
Success also continued for “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” grossing US$34.1M, and “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald,” which has grossed US$568.5M since opening.
