KUCHING: Sarawakians are reminded to choose reliable platforms for obtaining up-to-date information, especially on social media.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said there is an increasing ‘competition’ among platforms to disseminate information, with some spreading false news and negative propaganda.
The situation, he added, is further complicated by irresponsible parties misusing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to impersonate individuals.
“Hence, we must understand that the flow of information is not just evolving but going through a revolution, where everyone today is a content creator on social media,” he said during the Jiwa Komuniti Madani Programme at the constituency level at a local hotel here recently.
Dr Sim, who is also the Batu Kawa assemblyman, said news must be accurate and reliable, with positive values, to prevent negative perceptions of Sarawak and Malaysia.
“We may not be the best yet, but we strive to be the best in the future. Achieving this depends on how we deliver authentic, constructive information that avoids misunderstandings and negative elements,” he added.
The programme involved three constituencies under the Stampin Parliamentary constituency namely Kota Sentosa, Batu Kitang, and Batu Kawa.
