KUCHING: Datus United Junior’s goalkeeper and captain, Marcel Robby, delivered a standout performance, making two crucial saves to secure a clean sheet in his team’s 2-0 victory over a determined Kpg Buntal side.

The 16-year-old Iban goalie was not only a commanding presence on the pitch but also vocal in organising his defence against the physical challenges posed by their opponents.

Reflecting on the match, Marcel expressed his relief and joy at the outcome. “I feel happy after winning 2-0 against Kpg Buntal. In the first half, I honestly thought we might end up drawing,” he admitted.

Marcel is the second of four siblings. After the match, he humbly acknowledged the victory as a blessing, attributing his performance to a higher power. “Fortunately, with God’s blessing, He helped us, and we won 2-0 against Kpg Buntal,” he added.

He made these remarks after the game during an interview with New Sarawak Tribune at Padang D in Petra Jaya on Sunday at the PETRONAS Youth Football Closed Tournament 2024.

“I made two important saves. Regarding the penalty, I initially didn’t think it was a foul, but the referee clearly saw something I missed,” he explained.

Hailing from Kampung Batu Lintang in Sri Aman, Marcel draws inspiration from national goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi and Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid CF, striving to emulate their skills and composure in goal. His dedication and leadership on the field were pivotal in securing the win for his team.
