GOF cripples diesel misappropriation in raid

BINTANGOR: The Sibu General Operations Force (GOF) successfully dismantled a subsidised diesel misappropriation activity in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tiris’ on Tuesday.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarikei branch chief Mohamad Zawawi said that the raid targeted an unnumbered house suspected of being used to store and transfer subsidised diesel.

“We received this case from Sibu GOF, which involved the misappropriation of 7,250 litres of subsidised diesel.

“Also included in the case were a lorry, 11 intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), and an electric pump.

“All of the seized items are valued at around RM26,337.50,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods in a condition that gives rise to reasonable suspicion of committing an offence.

Corporations are liable to face fines of up to RM2 million for the first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences, upon conviction.

Individuals could be fined up to RM1 million or face imprisonment of up to three years, or both, for the first offence, and up to RM3 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, for subsequent offences.

Zawawi encouraged the public to report any information regarding the misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods by calling 019-8488000 / 019-279431 or emailing the complaints portal at e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my.
