KUCHING: An attempt to smuggle various controlled goods worth RM1,337 was thwarted by General Operations Force (GOF) personnel at a ‘rat trail’ in Kampung Mongkos last Saturday.

According to a GOF spokesperson, a team, comprising six GOF members, arrived at the location to do an inspection around 2.30pm.

“A suspicious bundle was found in a bush around 100m from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

“After waiting for almost an hour, no one approached the bundle. Following further inspection, various controlled goods were found, suspected of being smuggled into Indonesia.”

The items were 84 packets of 1kg sugar, 18 bottles of 2kg cooking oil, 51 packets of 1kg cooking oil, and eight canisters (200 litres) of petrol. No arrest was made.

The goods were handed over to Serian police, then to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for further action.
