KUCHING: Pit stop issues dashed the hopes of gold medal for Sarawak’s eRacing team as they had to settle for silver medal in the Double Team Race category yesterday (Aug 22).

Muhammad Hamdany Abdul Hamid and Jeff Qi Rui Tan finished second with a best lap of 2:02.600, in the 45-lap team race at the Sepang Grand Prix.

The gold went to Perak’s Abdul Yazid Imran Abdul Razak and Muhammad Hasif Zainal Abidin, while Melaka’s Aisy Amani Zikry Azmi and Muhammad Hakim Suhaimi secured bronze.

Despite the setback, Hamdany and Tan appeared joyful but visibly disappointed as they were not able to bag the gold medal for Sarawak.

“We’re still kind of disappointed (with the race), but we are grateful for the result.

“We could have won gold if not for the pit stop issues. We had the pace to win, but Perak did a better job,” 21-year-old Hamdany told New Sarawak Tribune after the race at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak yesterday (Aug 22).

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Tan, the youngest driver in the competition, admitted to feeling nervous racing against experienced opponents from other states.

“I am disappointed that we couldn’t get gold for Sarawak due to some of my mistakes.

“I’ll keep racing and work on improving for a better result next time (SUKMA 2026),” he said.
