KOTA SAMARAHAN: A foreigner was arrested for allegedly scamming a housewife with his gold repairing service earlier this week.

Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the incident happened last Sunday (June 18) when a Chinese man approached the 77-year-old at her residence in Kampung Asajaya Laut here.

The victim said the suspect claimed to have the skills to repair and clean gold ornaments.

“Believing his claims, the victim entrusted him with a gold bracelet. The man assured her that the bracelet needed cleaning before it could be repaired.

“Upon completing the work for a wage of RM2, the bracelet was returned to the victim but, it was in a damaged state and no longer resembled its original form,” he said.

Realising that she was a scam victim, the elderly woman grew suspicious of the man’s intentions and told her family about it.

The next day (June 19), the victim’s son managed to track down the suspect in Kampung Rebak.

Azman said the suspect was apprehended by the victim’s son and later handed over to Asajaya police.

The suspect is currently detained at the Asajaya police lock-up for further investigation.

The police chief advised the public to be cautious and avoid entertaining strangers who claim to possess the ability to clean or repair gold ornaments.

“It is crucial to inform your partner, friends, or family members if you encounter individuals making such dubious claims,” he added.
