KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak’s tennis team delivered an impressive performance at the recent Kejohanan Tenis Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) by clinching both gold and silver medals.

Leading the charge were brothers Ryoga Kho, 12, and Yoshi Kho, 10, from SJKC Stampin, Kuching, who captured the gold in the Under-12 Boys Doubles category.

The Kho brothers demonstrated exceptional skill throughout the tournament, dominating Group A in the round-robin stage with decisive victories over Pahang and Johor.

They continued their winning streak into the quarterfinals, comfortably defeating a pair from Perak.

In a thrilling semifinal match, Ryoga and Yoshi triumphed over Penang’s Caden Kan JiaZhi and Ong Theng Kuan, with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5.

Their momentum carried into the final, where they secured a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory against Selangor’s twin duo, Anas Irfan Osman and Anas Zafran Osman.

Adding to Sarawak’s success, the duo of Imaan Belle Mohamad Ishan from SMK St Columba, Miri, and Nathanielle Ann Lee Wan-Xuan from St Joseph International School, Kuching, showcased their talent in the Under-18 Girls Doubles category.

They reached the finals and ultimately earned a well-deserved silver medal.

The Sarawak tennis team, led by head of contingent Melissa Ogang, celebrated their achievements with pride.

The Kho brothers expressed their gratitude for the support received from their teachers and coach.

“We couldn’t have done it without the encouragement and support of all the teachers in our team and the dedication of our coach. We are so thankful and excited to keep working hard for our next tournament,” they said.
