KUCHING: Sarawak’s Mirabel Ting and Anson Yeo struck gold at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Golf Competition held at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) today (Ag 18).
The state’s golfers also clinched silver in the men’s team event and bronze in the women’s.
Ting dominated the women’s individual division, closing out the tournament with a final round of 2-under-par 70.
Her overall score of 10-under-par 206 secured a home-state victory.
“Winning gold here in Sarawak means everything to me. I played with confidence and trusted my game. I’m grateful for the support from my family, teammates, and the entire Sarawak community,” she said.
Yeo triumphed in the men’s individual category with a final score of 6-under-par 210.
“This win is incredibly special to me. Competing and winning in front of my home crowd has been an unforgettable experience. I stayed patient and focused, and I’m thrilled to bring home the gold for Sarawak,” he said.
Perak’s Wang Xin Yao claimed silver in the women’s individual event with an even-par 216, while Kuala Lumpur’s Ng Jing Xuen took bronze with a 2-over-par 218.
In the men’s individual competition, Selangor’s Ajmal Amin secured silver with a 3-under-par 213, despite a challenging final round.
Perak’s Andrew Yap claimed bronze on countback after finishing with a 1-over-par 217.
Team Perak emerged victorious in the women’s team event with a combined score of 676.
Selangor secured silver with 688, narrowly edging out Sarawak, which also finished with 688 but lost on countback.
Selangor’s men dominated the team event, claiming gold with a total of 659. Sarawak earned silver (666), and Perak bronze (669).
