KUCHING: Only unstable patients with medications to adjust and titrate should come to hospitals for follow ups.

Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar Dr Abigail Rembui Jerip said, “Rescheduling appointments is a good idea for stable patients because many clinics have already started deferring the dates for appointments.

“However, it is the unstable ones with medications to adjust and titrate that should come for follow up.

“Lest a mistake in their medication could cause them to fall ill.”

She was giving her thoughts when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune on patients who were deferring their medications or rationing  them as they refused to observe their scheduled appointments at the hospitals due to the spread of Covid-19.

Dr Abigail, who is also the founding chairperson of Pink and Teal EmpowHer, pointed out that the patients were rightly concerned to reduce their movements in line with the movement control order (MCO).

However, patients must remember their responsibility in all this which is to maintain their optimal health by taking their prescriptions.

She said the right thing for them to do is to call their respective clinics.

“The Outpatient Pharmacy (OPD) at SGH has a Whatsapp number.

“Patients can schedule a pick up time to minimise the amount of time spent in the hospital or arrange the medication to be picked up at the health clinics closer to where they stay,” she added.
