KUCHING: EduQuest Education Services yesterday held its EduQuest University Information and Registration Day at Pullman Hotel here from 1pm until 5pm.
The event attracted good public response.
According to its Education Manager, Michael Yii, since its inception in 2002, EduQuest has helped thousands of students to achieve their dreams of furthering their studies.
“The main objective of this event is to provide an opportunity for parents and students to speak directly to representatives from the universities.
“We see a huge crowd coming in to enquire about choices of courses and careers and I believe they (students) now have a better idea of what they want to pursue for their higher education,” he said.
In order to reward students who applied and enrolled for a course during the event, some participating institutions waived the application/registration fees for the students, added Yii.
“Due to the current economic downturn and high inflation rate, some parents who initially planned to send their children overseas are now considering local options.
“These students may stay back in Malaysia to study for two to three years before transferring to another university overseas. Besides that, some foreign universities have set up branch campuses locally, which means students are able to complete the entire foreign degree in Malaysia,” explained Yii.
He said well received courses among students were A-Levels, South Australian Matriculation, University Foundation, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, law, business, accounting, finance, hospitality, tourism, architecture and design.
Some students also required about non-traditional courses like traditional Chinese medicine, real estate management, film production, culinary arts, aircraft maintenance, physiotherapy and occupational safety and health.
“This indicate that students are now more equipped with knowledge of various courses and career choices. Universities and colleges are now offering attractive scholarships, bursaries and incentives for deserving students,” Yii said, adding that students were able to obtain financial aid from government agencies like Yayasan Sarawak, National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and various corporations.
