KUCHING: A good Samaritan recently contacted Hope Place Kuching regarding an elderly woman who has to take care of her sons and grandchildren.

The charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO) stated that 64-year-old Jong Teh Fat lives in a rented house at Pending and still has to work to help support her two sons and grandchildren.

“Aunty Jong works part time at a coffee shop washing dishes. However, her income depends on whether she is needed at the shop because she is paid daily and unfortunately her salary is below the minimum pay.

“Although one of her sons is mentally challenged, he does not have a people with disabilities (OKU) card and he sometimes helps his mother washing dishes,” it said in a press statement today (Feb 23).

Hope Place stated that Jong’s other son is a single father with two teenage boys.

Being a construction worker who is paid daily, he is also struggling to fend for his own kids who are still schooling.

“The anonymous good Samaritan who informed us about Aunty Jong also frequently brings her for check-ups at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). We are very grateful for kindhearted people of Kuching who not only generously give donations, but their time as well.

“We are supporting this family with basic food aid,” it added.
