KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos has lauded Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng on the latter’s plan to enforce the use of face shields on top of face masks as double protection.

He said that it was a very good idea and suggestion which would definitely provide double protection for the frontliners.

“Wearing a face shield, if advised by the health professionals, can also be emulated by other groups for their own safety.

“MPKS, until it is advised by the Health Ministry, will continue to focus on what it has been doing in the past —checking and monitoring on the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance in all shops, cafes, malls, markets and supermarkets with the help of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

“We will also educate the public on the dangers of Covid-19 and remind them to wear face masks all the time when they are out in the public, strictly comply with the SOPs and always use hand sanitiser and wash their hands as often as possible,” said Minos when contacted via WhatsApp on Sunday (Apr 25).

During a Facebook live session with the community on Saturday (Apr 24), Wee elaborated on the rationale of enforcing the use of face shields for those who worked in certain economic sectors.

“Although I have yet to identify these sectors, double protection is important for those whose jobs expose them to a greater risk of contracting Covid-19.

“That’s the reason why we see those who work in places such as hospitals, clinics and pharmacies wear face shields on top of their face masks,” he said.
