KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) forecasts fair weather in the majority of areas in Sarawak on polling day tomorrow morning.
METMalaysia Sarawak Director Khairul Najib Ibrahim mentioned areas close to the coast such as Mukah and Bintulu will experience a light drizzle.
“We are only worried about areas such as Miri, Limbang and parts of Kapit where we have issued a yellow level warning which is the first level since Thursday and will end later in tonight.
“Tomorrow, the weather will be fair, maybe cloudy and a little overcast, but we expect nothing significant in the morning, only in the afternoon we expect a light drizzle,” he said in an interview in Sejahtera Asia on TVS, today.
Therefore, he advised electorates to go out and vote early in the morning.
He explained that it is the best move because by doing so you can avoid bad weather in the afternoon.
In the meantime, he said, METMalaysia Sarawak is constantly monitoring the current weather conditions and always issues warnings if bad weather is expected to occur.
Hence, Khairul said that the community should stay updated on the current weather situation on polling day through the Election Commission (EC), the police and the METMalaysia.
“Always be prepared and also listen to the instructions of the authorities because in the case of a flood, I am sure that the authorities are ready with their contingency plans to deal with it.
“Everyone needs to be ready to face all possibilities and listen to the instructions of the authorities that will be managed by the relevant state disaster management agencies,” he said.
