Google says it’s planning a new feature that lets users automatically delete certain data on what websites they use and places they go.
While you can already manually delete certain information that Google knows about you, this is cumbersome in practice, and the company admitted in a recent blog post that users needed a simpler way to delete information.
The new auto-delete feature will let users choose how long data should be saved. There is a choice between 3 and 18 months overall. The data will then be deleted in regular intervals after that time period.
Google also notes that saving this data allows them to make life easier for users. For instance, by collecting data on restaurants users like to go to, Google can suggest other ones they may also like.
Facebook announced a similar option for its users a year ago — however it is yet to have materialised. The new feature on Google will be rolled out over the next few weeks. – dpa
