KUCHING: Sri Aman District Council (MDSA) recently joined hands with the Chinese Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Resak and Kampung Kejatau in organising a ‘gotong-royong’ session.
The programme, held last Thursday, was attended by Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who is the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Simanggang assemblyman.
The primary objective of the programme was to instil a sense of responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment while providing a platform to strengthen the bond between community members and council representatives.
The event saw around 50 participants including JKKK members and MDSA councillors, with activities ranging from cleaning roadsides, ditches, removing debris and trimming tree branches that cause traffic obstructions in both neighbourhoods.
During the gotong-royong programme at JKKK Kampung Resak, Harden also personally presented food aids to six individuals facing economic challenges.
Also present at the programme were MDSA acting secretary, Regina Giles Senin; JKKK Kmpung Resak representative Kapitan Kii King Hung; JKKK Kampung Kejatau representative Kapitan Wong Tiong Kee and members from both JKKKs.
