SIBU: A health screening programme targetting elderly people organised by Sibu Member of Parliament, Oscar Ling Chai Yew’s service centre was held at an open space in Rejang Park Commercial Centre recently.

The inaugural programme, in collaboration with Midwives Association Sarawak Sibu Branch and Sunlight Pharmacy also incorporated a talk on mental health and eye wellness.

According to Ling, senior citizens were the main target group because Rejang Park residential area has high number of elderlies.

“Thus, the programme is to help them to undergo a health screening so that they know their basic health status and to take preventive action.

“The government is focusing more on preventive measures in term of health care. Years ago before 2018, it focuses more on treatment. Once you get diabetes, glucose or high blood pressure, then you will get the treatment, he said.

Ling reiterated that after 2018, the focus was more towards preventive measures, hence the government has provided lots of policies and health care screening.
