Governor mulls setting up of publication foundation

KUCHING: Sarawak Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar recently emphasised the importance of establishing a publication foundation aimed at preserving and promoting knowledge.

Chairman of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Board of Management, Datuk Dr. Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen asserted that Wan Junaidi highlighted the necessity of publications as records of knowledge, underscoring the continued relevance of hard copies even in the digital age.

“He expressed support for creating a publication foundation to facilitate the publication of books and other educational materials in Sarawak,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rauf said this to the reporter during a press conference at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (Pustaka) and Green Science and Technology Association Malaysia (GSTAM) held at Pustaka here yesterday (Aug14).

He also stressed on the importance of the publication foundation to help address the current challenges in the region, particularly the difficulty of publishing books.  

Pustaka chief executive officer (CEO), Japri Bujang Masli said this MoU agreement focuses on establishing the Responsible Consumption and Production Alliance (RCPA) framework, which aims to reduce plastic waste, foster an environmentally sustainable community, and support SDG 4: Quality Education.

“With the signing of this memorandum, the parties mutually agree to take the necessary steps to cooperate, promote, strengthen, and develop mutually agreed programs that fall within the following scopes and objectives,” he said.

Also present during the MoU between Pustaka and GSTAM were, Pustaka’s deputy CEO (Operations), Wan Mazli Wan Razali, GSTAM’s presidents , Goh Hsiau Jen and Ts. Jeff Wee Hung Yee.
