KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohamad Sanusi will grace the State-Level National Day 2024 celebration in Sibu on August 31.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, stated that the selection of Sibu as the host for the celebration is very appropriate because it is centrally located, where various ethnic groups reside.
He added that the people of Sarawak have always lived in harmony, regardless of race or religion.
“We will also invite community leaders and representatives from various ethnicities to join in the celebration,” he said when met by reporters after paying a courtesy call on Wan Junaidi at the Astana Negeri on Monday.
Sikie added that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang are also scheduled to attend the celebration.
“There will be three main events planned to enliven the National Day celebration with the theme “Jiwa Merdeka” scheduled from August 30 to 31,” he said.
The events include the Ambang Hari Kebangsaan Concert on the night of August 30, starting at 8:00 pm, and a Fun Walk on the morning of August 31, expected to attract around 5,000 participants, to be held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang.
The highlight of the celebration – the National Day Assembly – will be held at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, UTS Sibu, featuring cultural performances, special presentations and the singing of patriotic songs by Sarawakian artistes and other popular local performers.
