BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) allotted RM38 million for the purpose of repairing and upgrading 119 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) headquarters nationwide this year.
Its minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said the allocation is part of the ministry’s effort to ensure that Bomba officers and staff members get to live in comfort and safely.
“The relevant maintenance and upgrading works will soon be looked into, so that it can be done immediately for their benefit,” she told reporters after officiating the Penanti Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) yesterday.
Director-general of Bomba Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid and director of Penang state Bomba Saadon Moktar were also present.
Built in Dec 2016 at a cost of RM2.38 million on a piece of 1.13-hectare land, the Penanti BBP is the 19th fire station in the state. – Bernama
Completed on Nov 9 last year, BBP Penanti is a Category D fire station that will be able to provide fire and rescue services within 68.54 square km of the area.
Mohammad Hamdan, in his speech delivered earlier, said that 28 more BBPs will be built and upgraded at a cost of RM160 million this year.
“There are now 298 fire and rescue stations nationwide and we are targeting for a 48.5 percent response time this year compared to last year’s 47 percent. This can be achieved with more such stations,” he said. – Bernama
