KUCHING: “The court’s decision must be accepted,” said Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar when commenting on the High Court ruling on the case involving Pujut assemblyman, Dr Ting Chiong Choon.
The High Court here yesterday ruled as unlawful the State Legislative Assembly’s decision to disqualify Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assemblyman.
Justice Datuk Douglas Cristo Primus Sikayun also ordered that Dr Ting to be restored as the constituency’s representative.
“We can’t object. If someone is dissatisfied with the government’s decision, that person has a right to bring the case to court,” Junaidi explained.
He was interviewed by the media after handing over donations to fire victims at Surau Kampung Bintawa Hilir yesterday.
He added that the government could appeal to the High Court if it was unhappy with the ruling.
“Or it could also request for a review of the judge’s decision,” he said.
Earlier on, Junaidi, who is also Santubong Member of Parliament, expressed his grief over the fire that happened on 13 June and destroyed four out of six affected houses in Kampung Bintawa Hilir.
“This tragedy happened when people were busy preparing for Hari Raya. This is a very tough time for the victims,” he said, adding that the Fire and Services Department and the police were still investigating the cause of the fire.
“For the time being, we will give immediate assistance in terms of food and other things to the victims to ease their burden.
“We will also try to assist in rebuilding the houses,” he added.
Also present was Junaidi’s wife, Datin Seri Feona Sim who handed over a personal donation to the fire victims.
