KUCHING: The state government has come in for praise for its efforts to restore dilapidated schools in the rural areas.
Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor who praised the move also credited government measures to help poor students, especially from the rural areas, continue their studies to higher levels.
“The Sarawak government has also offered various sponsorships at University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), and Sarawak Skills (PPKS)which open opportunities for B40 students to further their studies.
“Hopefully by gaining from the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund, it will provide more prospects to our youth and future generations to have various scholarships, sponsorships or even better, free education in the future,” she said.
She pointed out that the Sarawak government also contributed much to the community, students, small and medium traders and vendors during the economic turmoil brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic through BKSS 1.0 to 9.0.
“That proved Sarawak needs to be prepared to deal with unexpected economic turbulence and potential future depletion of its natural resources.
“With this Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund Board, it can ensure economic stability in the long term,” she added.
