KUCHING: A total of 71 youth and sports associations and clubs in Sarawak have received the grant worth RM5,041,600 from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED).
Its Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the grant is intended for the administrative management of the association or clubs and also for them to organise programmes.
“Thus, it is hoped that the grants can be used as a catalyst for associations and clubs to remain active and committed in implementing their respective programmes and activities,” he said.
He also called upon all the youth and sports associations and clubs to continue to enhance their potential and performance in line with the objectives of their respective establishments, as well as collaborate with the ministry in development of youth and sports in Sarawak.
“I also hope that with the strong support of the state government, Sarawak can rise as a Malaysian sports powerhouse and be ready for SUKMA this year.
“This requires a spirit of closer cooperation and collaboration on well-planned development and training programmes to ensure Sarawak’s ability to continue to produce world-class youth and quality sports talents,” he said.
Karim presented the cheque to the respective recipient during the MYSED Appreciation, Engagement, and Collaboration Nite 2022 at Waterfront Hotel on Monday evening (Feb 21).
He added MYSED’s achievements in sports, among others, had seen 26 athletes winning medals at the international level while 35 athletes have participated in international tournaments.
Earlier, the event also saw Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari presenting the incentives to two athletes namely, Buda Anchah and Dr Malvern Abdullah who won medals at the international level.
Buda received an incentive of RM15,000, while Dr Malvern received RM5,000. Each of them received trophy.
Abdul Karim further said that his ministry will strive to ensure that the involvement of youth in entrepreneurship continues to progress and excel.
“With the formation of a new portfolio for entrepreneur development in my ministry, we will focus on the young entrepreneurs.
“We will organise more programmes on youth entrepreneurship development to boost their capabilities, knowledge and skills.
“The implementation of such a programme not only optimises the impact in developing youth as a whole, but it is in line with my ministry’s vision ‘Towards World Class Youth, Sports for All and Excellent Youth Entrepreneurs by 2030’,” he said.
Later at the event, Abdul Karim also launched the MYSED’s Calender of Programme/Activities 2022.
“The ministry will ensure that all planned programmes can be implemented and able to provide the best impact to the targeted group.
“With the motto ‘No Week Without Programme’, this is a challenge for the ministry to really work hard, remain committed and proactive to implement programmes non-stop every week,” he said.
