KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch thanked the GPS government for not condoning and allowing any racial or religious bigots to enter the state.
In a press statement, it stated that the current state of affairs in Malaya with numerous inflammatory remarks on race and religion made by various bodies and individuals highlights the need for our government to continue to safeguard our immigration autonomy jealously.
Sarawak has long maintained harmony and understanding among the various races, and as acknowledged by the
Minister in Charge of Unity, Waytha Moorthy, “the unity in diversity in Sarawak is real and genuine”.
Most recently Malaysia has seen deep division among the races due to inflammatory remarks made by Muslim preacher Zakir Naik from India who has gone against the conditions of his permanent residence status by making political remarks and engaging in verbal spats with Malaysian leaders.
SUPP Stakan wishes to appeal to the prime minister to revoke Zakir’s permanent residence status for his transgressions.
In Sarawak, the government had ejected individuals, not just foreigners but also Malayans, for having violated their PR status, and it is hoped that the federal government would do the same to Zakir to restore order and peace in the country.
On the matter of Dong Zong, SUPP Stakan Branch vehemently disagrees with the opinion of the prime minister who has called the organisation racist.
In Sarawak, the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), a standardised test for students of Chinese independent high schools, is recognised by the state government and Chinese schools serve the Chinese and as well as bumiputeras, with some schools having up to 75% bumiputera students.
SUPP reiterated that Dong Zong is not racist even if it wants to because factually and practically, it serves all communities and by this example alone, it can refute the allegations made by the PM.
